TAD19-December '63 - A Tribute to the Original Jersey Boys

Before The Beatles landed on the shores of the United States, The Four Seasons were the most popular band in the country. The British Invasion created a huge shift in American pop music tastes but yet, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons continued to knock out hits.
The Four Seasons were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and joined the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.They are one of the best-selling groups of all time, having sold 175 million records worldwide.
In 1962, the group released their first album, featuring the single Sherry, which was not only their first charted hit but also their first number-one song. The Four Seasons followed up Sherry with several million selling hits, including Big Girls Don’t Cry, (their second #1 hit), Walk Like A Man, (their third #1), Candy Girl, and several others. From 1962 to early 1964, only The Beach Boys matched the Four Seasons in record sales in the United States.
This re-creation of a Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons concert will have you reaching for the high notes as our cast and band take you on musical journey with stops at every phase of the careers of Frankie and the boys.

The Firebird is Igor Stravinsky’s most famous score. The ballet begins in the enchanted garden of the sinister Kastchei. In this garden he protects his golden fruit and captured princesses. Prince Ivan enters the enchanted garden and sees the Firebird stealing a golden apple from Kastchei’s magical tree and captures her. He vows he will not let her go until she relinquish a magical feather. In the growing darkness Ivan learns from the most beautiful princess that the evil magician entraps innocent travelers and turns them into stone. Ivan is attracted to this lovely creature who tells him of this strange story. As they part the princess tells him not to follow her. Ivan does not heed the warning and follows her. Alarms sound and swarms of monsters emerge with Kastchei leading them. They enslave Prince Ivan. The wicked magician tries to turn him into stone, but just then Ivan remembers the magical Firebird feather. The Firebird instantly appears and forces all the monsters to collapse! Ivan is able to escape during the distraction and retrieve the great egg that holds the soul of Kastchei. Ivan throws the egg into the air and when it smashes on the ground Kastchei dies. Ivan is free and so are the princesses. Prince Ivan marries his lovely princess and all is restored. The Firebird is free and flies away forever.

Ongtupqa

Hear some of the oldest instruments of the Southwest, played by Clark Tenakhongva, Gary Stroutsos and Matthew Nelson. This talented trio uses their mastery of voice, flute and clay pot percussion to create an artistic soundscape in celebration of Öngtupqa, the Hopi name for Grand Canyon. This one of a kind performance includes traditional songs sung by Tenakhongva, renowned Hopi artist and Vice Chairman of the Hopi Tribe, performing with Nelson on ceramic percussion and Stroutsos on a replica of an ancient Hopi long flute – a relatively unknown instrument that has been missing from the Hopi Mesas for over 500 years. Archaeological excavations in northeastern Arizona from the 1920s unearthed four flutes that have been dated to 650 A.D., making them among the oldest known wooden flutes in North America. The trio will also show an excerpt of their film, Öngtupqa, recorded at the Desert View Watchtower at the Grand Canyon, and present historical and cultural context.
