Folly Theater
New York Voices with Kansas City Jazz Orchestra

"It’s certainly not something that occurred to us when we were thinking about starting a band in 1988,” says Darmon Meader, musical director and tenor singer of New York Voices, about the seminal vocal ensemble’s 30th anniversary. “But the band has a momentum of its own—it has a life now.” Indeed, that momentum and life force has a firm grip on Meader and his bandmates, baritone Peter Eldridge and dual sopranos Lauren Kinhan and Kim Nazarian. Each has a separate and busy career of his or her own, working as a soloist and educator in the jazz vocal world, but each makes New York Voices their top priority. “We’re like a four-headed old married couple—we’re just a big family at this point,” Meader says.

Fans of legendary folk icons The Kingston Trio can re-discover their timeless music all over again, after a forced nearly two-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions as the group returns to their national tour.  All three current members, Mike Marvin, Tim Gorelangton and Buddy Woodward have intrinsic links to and experience with the original group: Mike is the adopted son of founding member Nick Reynolds, who was also his musical mentor; Tim, a close friend since boyhood, is one of the few musicians outside the Trio who has recorded with Nick Reynolds; and Buddy, who has performed with longtime Kingston Trio member George Grove. Many of their personal memories recall the iconic trio’s performances and journey as folk music made its extraordinary ascent to the pinnacle of popular culture – and the top of the music charts.  They’ll perform such timeless classics “Where Have All The Flowers Gone?” and “Tom Dooley”.

Anat Cohen Quartetinho
Ever charismatic, prolific, and inspired, GRAMMY®-nominated clarinetist-saxophonist Anat Cohen has won hearts and minds the world over with her expressive virtuosity and delightful stage presence. The New York Times writes, “Ms. Cohen on the clarinet was a revelation. Using the clarinet’s upper register, she could evoke infectious joy. In the lower register, her playing could conjure a deep, soulful melancholy. On up-tempo numbers, her improvisations were not just bebop fast; they had a clarity and deep intelligence that is really quite rare. She made it look effortless; even as she was playing the most technically difficult of all the reed instruments… she took my breath away.”
