Midwest Choral Artists

Midwest Choral Artists, based in Madison, WI, is a hand selected ensemble comprised of music educators, professional musicians, and skilled amateurs. Its members travel from all around central Wisconsin to rehearse, some as far as Platteville and Fond du Lac.

Midwest Choral Artists was formed around the love of two things: choral music and the bond that is created through that music. The members of this group were hand-picked by the directors not only for their outstanding musicianship, but because they share a mindset that choral music is a personal pillar, holding strong through the ebbs and flows of life.

Goodwill offerings accepted at the event.

This concert is free.

High School Choral Festival

Each October, University of Wisconsin-Platteville hosts the High School Choral Festival. Hundreds of high school choristers from the Tri-State area convene for a day of rehearsal and performance with each of UW-Platteville's single-gender choirs, Coro D'Angeli, and Singing Pioneers. Emphasis is placed on fostering camaraderie as well as a lifelong love of the choral arts. Concurrent with rehearsals and break-out activities for students, sponsoring teachers also benefit from continuing education interest sessions and workshops. The festival culminates with a performance in the evening, wherein each combined gender choir of high schoolers and college students is showcased alongside the three UW-Platteville mixed choirs.

In this comic and dark play, two young women, third-grade teacher Sara, and radio traffic reporter Callie are best friends about to discover something new about their relationships. Callie is sick of her inability to connect with men more than through casual dating or sex, and Callie is beginning to realize she may be a lesbian. It shocks both of them, however, when they find themselves falling in love with each other. When they succumb to their desires and share a first kiss, the act provokes a violent attack from a gay-bashing stranger, changing their lives forever.

Our Town [Hide All]

OUR TOWN by Thornton Wilder (1897-1975), born in Madison, Wisconsin, and educated at Yale and Princeton, was an accomplished novelist and playwright whose works explore the connection between the commonplace and the cosmic dimensions of human experience.

This timeless drama of life in the mythical village of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, has become an American classic with universal appeal. Thornton Wilder’s most frequently performed play, Our Town appeared on Broadway in 1938 to wide acclaim, and won the Pulitzer Prize. From the very beginning, Our Town has been produced throughout the world.

Our Town explores the relationship between two young Grover’s Corners neighbors, George Gibbs and Emily Webb, whose childhood friendship blossoms into romance, and then culminates in marriage. When Emily looses her life in childbirth, the circle of life portrayed in each of the three acts of Our Town–growing up, adulthood, and death–is fully realized.

Wilder offers a couple of chairs on a bare stage as the backdrop for an exploration of the universal human experience. The simple story of a love affair is constantly rediscovered because it asks timeless questions about the meaning of love, life and death. In the final moments of the play, the recently deceased Emily is granted the opportunity to revisit one day in her life, only to discover that she never fully appreciated all she possessed until she lost it. “Oh, earth, you’re too wonderful for anybody to realize you,” she says as she takes her place among the dead.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
