The Last Days of Judas Iscariot
Theatre has a long history of courtroom comedy and drama but that motif will never be the same after CAST's Regional Premiere of THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT by Stephen Adly Guirgis.

The Plot: Set in a time-bending, seriocomically imagined world between Heaven and Hell, Stephen Adly Guirgis’s dark comedy/drama, THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT is a philosophical meditation on the conflict between divine mercy and human free will that takes a close look at the eternal damnation of the Bible’s most notorious sinner, Judas Iscariot.

Our courtroom is a surrealistic purgatory where the testimony of the central characters, as well as expert witnesses such as Sigmund Freud, Satan, Mother Teresa, and Pontius Pilate, set up a wildly entertaining and thought provoking case that gives the audience the opportunity to judge for themselves what is right/wrong/good/bad and everything in-between.

The Reviews:
“Confirms Guirgis’s place as one of the most electric young dramatists.”-Robert Brustein, THE NEW REPUBLIC
“An ambitious, complicated and often laugh-out-loud religious debate.”-Toby Zinman, THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER
“A real jaw-dropper. [Guirgis’s] imagination is dazzling and his command of language downright thrilling.”-Marilyn Stasio, VARIETY
“This ain’t your grandmother’s gospel.”-Charlotte Stroudt, THE VILLAGE VOICE

Gruesome Playground Injuries
Carolina Actors Studio Theatre presents its final Regional Premiere and last show of the 2013-2104 Season with GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES by Rajiv Joseph

Author of the Pulitzer Prize finalist Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, Rajiv Joseph is one of today’s most acclaimed young playwrights. The recipient of numerous accolades, including an NEA Award for Best Play and a Whiting Writers’ Award, he is an artist to watch.

The Plot: Gruesome Playground Injuries charts the intersection of Kayleen and Doug back and forth through time from the ages of 8 through 38 using scars, wounds, and calamities as the mile markers to explore why people hurt themselves...and each other.

This story breaks theatrical convention by following the two characters not in chronological, cause-effect order, but as an episodic tale flowing freely through large gaps in time and place.

The Review:

“Up-and-coming dramatist Rajiv Joseph is an artist of original talent”-Ben Brantley, THE NEW YORK TIMES

CAST presents the Regional Premiere of GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES.
